Tropical Course |

The General Tropical Course (ATK) is a 8 weeks course preparing course participants for their every day life and work in countries which suffer from severe poverty. The course transmits knowledge and an understanding on the global and local economic conditions, on the ecological, geographical, social and cultural variety and on the health and disease conditions of tropical and subtropical countries.
The course is divided in 2 modules:
- The General Module (4 weeks) focuses on economical, ecological, geographical and socio-cultural conditions of tropical and subtropical countries, while -
- The Biomedical Module (4 weeks) introduces specific health and disease aspects of these areas.
The General Tropical Course is a continuous education course accredited by the University of Basel. The course language is German.
The Swiss TPH also contributes to a series of 1-day preparation courses run by the foundation "cinfo" for people going to work in the tropics (see continuous education).
