Public Health Strengthening Programme
Ngozi Province
Since 2006 the Swiss TPH has been mandated by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) to implement the Health System Support Programme (PASS-Ngozi) in the province of Ngozi in Burundi. Currently in its second implementation phase, the programme supports the government and the partners at the decentralised levels in the province of Ngozi to implement the National Health Development Plan.

The programme is implemented in the Province of Ngozi, in the North of Burundi. The Province of Ngozi gathers the Sanitary District of Ngozi, Kiremba and Buye, amounting to a total population of 727’000 inhabitants, 4 hospitals and 43 health centres.

Throughout the implementation, a special attention is set on respecting the principle of subsidiarity.

WATSAN Burundi
Within the "health" intervention of the 2008-2012 strategy for the Great Lakes region, the Swiss Development Cooperation (SDC) has launched a regional “watsan” programme, in line with the MDGs and with the strategic priorities of the three countries to improve populations’ health and fight poverty. The “watsan” intervention in Burundi, implemented by the Swiss TPH, is complementary to the health program (PASS) in the province of Ngozi and will amplify its impact. It aims to improve the access to water by patients, medical staff and the larger community and to improve hygiene practices. This single phase - intervention will last 2 years.
