Swiss TPH

Health Information Systems (HIS) are a keystone building block of the health system.  HIS includes a wide range of sub-systems that collect, process, analyze, and disseminate population and health facility-based data. Worldwide, the availability and use of relevant timely and high quality HIS provides the basis for good decision making. Unfortunately, in low and middle income countries, such systems are often fragmented or incomplete. Strengthening HIS remains a overarching challenge for health system development and for informing progress in the health sector. Support for research and development of HIS in Swiss TPH projects is experiencing significant growth, and is of major importance in assuring that health information is better collected, processed, analysed, and utilised. The expertise and support of the Swiss TPH concentrates on public health computing applications to improve the architecture and inter-operability/exchange of information across the information system.
