Health Impact Assessment

This group aims to develop, validate and apply new tools and methods for assessing health impacts due to the implementation and operation of large-scale industrial development projects in the humid tropics. Activities primarily focus on natural resources development and management projects in the energy (oil, gas and hydroelectric projects), water resources and mining (e.g. gold) sectors with a geographical emphasis on sub-Saharan Africa . The group has developed a modular baseline health survey methodology and an innovative risk profiling matrix that is being further refined in ongoing projects. The ultimate aim is to combine health, environmental, social and human rights impact assessment in a cross-cutting and integrative framework.
