Physical Activity and Health |
Physical inactivity is the fourth leading cause of death worldwide. Physical activity has become a cornerstone of disease prevention and is not only effective at reducing mortality, but hinders cardiovascular disease with protective effects on all metabolic syndrome markers, reduces risk for depression, some cancers and osteoporosis and increases quality of life, cognitive abilities and independence in old-age. The Physical Activity and Health group focuses on all aspects of physical activity and health, with an emphasis on children. Our activities include reviewing different aspects of physical activity and its impact on health in primary, secondary and tertiary prevention, serving in scientifically or politically active institutions related to physical activity, and establishing links with other EPH groups and units, such as the Environmental Exposures and Health and Ecosystem Health Sciences units.
