One million US Dollar for an innovative idea: parasites in the impasse

Swiss researchers have developed a groundbreaking hypothesis which promises new strategies against parasitic diseases: the disease-causing parasites could be eliminated by being led into a dead end of their life cycle. The parasitologist Prof. Reto Brun from Swiss TPH and the molecular biologist Prof. Isabel Roditi from the Institute of Cell Biology, University of Bern received a research grant of 1 Mio. US Dollar from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation’s (BMGF) Grand Challenges Explorations programme. The first phase of this project has been completed successfully.
