Strengthening diagnostic capabilities, hygiene and eye care in MOH facilities
MOH facilities in Jordan provide health services to a large population, especially to poor or uninsured people. In order to complement efforts from MOH and other health donors to continuously improve health services and cope with the increasing demand, this project aims at upgrading equipment and processes of 3 components of health services:
- hospital hygiene: inadequate central sterilizing units will be modernized and outdated and unreliable equipment will be replaced with adequate modern equipment. Improved handling procedures will also be introduced. The activities should lead to a decrease of nosocomial infections and to the reduction of antibiotics treatments - and thus ease the burden on MOH finances.
- Laboratory diagnostic capabilities: modern laboratory equipment with sufficient capacity will provide an increased number of reliable tests and diagnostics. Unnecessary double test and incorrect treatments can be avoided.
- Eye Care: modern ophthalmologic diagnostic and surgery equipment will contribute to a rapid diagnosis and quality treatment of eye diseases which are curable but today still often lead to blindness due to inadequate treatment possibilities. The project leads to a reduction of blindness prevalence and reduces pressure on the MOH due to a decreasing number of costly referrals of patients to private health facilities.
