Christian Auer

Professional Activities

  • Christian Auer provides technical, managerial and administrative assistance to activities in relation to the Institute’s mandate as Local Fund Agent on behalf of the Global Fund to Fight HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria (Global Fund), focusing on Cambodia
  • He does desk audit work in relation to the Institute’s mandate as desk auditor for GDF monitoring mission reports (GDF: Global Drug Facility; it is for TB drugs)
  • He is involved in doing data quality audits (DQA) for the Global Fund
  • Former areas of work include: TB control (including public-private mix and drug management), MDR-TB treatment and control (including psychological support for the MDR-TB patients), urban health, urban slum development, pastoral work and youth work in Manila, Philippines

Higher Education & Qualifications

  • 2003: PhD in Epidemiology, Swiss TPH
  • 2002 and 2007: WHO training in consultancy on TB control
  • 1998: MSc in Epidemiology (Public Health), University of the Philippines Manila, Philippines
  • 1989: MSc in Medical Zoology, Swiss TPH

Work Experience

  • March 2010 ongoing: Systems Performance and Monitoring Unit of the Swiss Centre for International Health (SCIH)
  • 2009: independent TB consultant in various countries (mostly for WHO)
  • Jan.-April 2009: working at SCIH for FMO projects appraisals
  • 2007-2008: temporary TB consultant for GDF, WHO in Asia, once for SCIH in Tajikistan and once for WHO EMRO in Pakistan
  • 2005-2008: Working with the Global Fund PR of the Philippines in Manila in Global Fund projects, mostly on TB and MDR-TB (multidrug-resistant TB), partly on malaria
  • 2005-2008: part-time collaborator of SERVANTS in Manila
  • March 2005 until March 2010: a 10% external position at SCIH
  • 1997-2004: Collaborator at GWE, Swiss TPH on TB control, from 1999 to 2003 as PhD student, from 2003 to 2004 as post-doc
  • 1990-96: Collaborator of SERVANTS, a Christian NGO working in the slums of Asia, in my case in Manila, Philippines
  • In short regarding the Institute: 1989, 1997-2004, Jan.-April 2009: Working at Swiss TPH (GWE, in 2009 at SCIH). Mostly on tuberculosis control, in the early years also on “urban health”
