Today, Thursday 26 September 2019, the foundation stone was laid (“Grundsteinlegung”) for the new building of the Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute (Swiss TPH) at the BaseLink area in Allschwil. After the groundbreaking ceremony on 21 June 2019, the event is another important milestone for the construction of the new Swiss TPH headquarters, which combines laboratory, training and working environments.

"Construction work started as planned in July 2019 and we are confident that we will be able to stick to the tight schedule and move in at the end of 2021", said Stefan Mörgeli, Project Manager New Building "Belo Horizonte" at Swiss TPH.

By the end of 2021, Swiss TPH employees and students, who are currently spread across seven buildings near Socinstrasse in Basel, will be able to work, conduct research and study under the same roof.

"Belo Horizonte" was designed by Basel architects Kunz und Mösch. The building offers 725 workplaces and over 150 laboratory spaces as well as auditoriums, classrooms and a cafeteria. The Swiss TPH Travel Clinic and its vaccination services will remain at the "Zur Föhre" Villa at the current location at Socinstrasse in Basel.
