The research group Epidemiology and Transmission Dynamics focuses on understanding infection dynamics and their consequences for health, using a range of computational tools from statistics, mathematics and computer science.
The group’s main focus has been on Plasmodium falciparum malaria, and on developing a general platform for comparing, fitting and evaluating micro-simulation models of malaria dynamics (OpenMalaria). We also design and analyse field studies, especially studies of malaria vectors. These are used to ensure that our models relate to real-world situations.
We also study the dynamics of other infectious diseases, in particular neglected tropical diseases including rabies, Human African Trypanosomiasis, and trematodes, again using the results of our modeling to inform control programmes in endemic countries.
