Long Term Projects

Comprehensive project management encompasses health system planning and development, procurement of technological and human resources, management of medicines and medical devices, as well as project monitoring, process optimisation and the introduction of information and communication systems. Many of our long term projects focus on accompanying a process of health sector reform, and introducing evidence based strategies to promote health and address risk factors that lead to preventable morbidity and mortality. Others can involve products of the Institute’s eHealth strategy to standardise approaches and quality utilisation of information and communication technology, as well as ensure access to accurate health information to improve health systems and contribute to Millennium Development Goals 4 and 5. Projects on strengthening social health insurance aim at improving financial access of the population to quality health services. Our work in health systems is based on the broad definition of health systems as proposed by the WHO, “to include all the activities whose primary purpose is to promote, restore or maintain health”. As this implies multi-sectoral efforts we also manage long term projects in collaboration with such sectors as education, to promote health. We also provide long term project support in the fields of quality management and controlling, for example, serving as a Local Fund Agent for the Global Fund to Fight Aids, Tuberculosis and Malaria in numerous countries, thereby coordinating programmatic and financial verification of program implementation.
