The Swiss University Conference (Schweizerische Universitätskonferenz, SUK) has accredited the Master of Advanced Studies in International Health (MIH) of the Swiss Tropical Institute (STI) and the University of Basel on 11th October 2007.
The Master Programme is mostly designed for people who can only study part-time. The workload is equivalent to a one year of full- time study (60 ECTS), but can be distributed over a period of five years. It is offered by the STI as a joint master program in collaboration with the Advanced Study Center of the University of Basel and the European Network for Education in International Health (tropEd). The accredited programme of study exists since 1996.
An international group of experts visited the STI in April 2007 and qualified the programme on the basis of a comprehensive self-evaluation report and numerous discussions with the responsible study coordinators, representatives of the teaching staff, students of the programme and administrative members of the University of Basel and the STI as a very strong offer. Especially the expertise of the teaching staff, the coherence of the several components and the excellent mentoring and supervision of the students were highlighted. The accreditation is valid until 2014 without any obligations.
