Health Social Sciences |
Health Social Sciences at the Swiss TPH are an integral feature of an agenda for research and support with both practical project aims and innovative contributions to the development of medical anthropology and cultural epidemiology. Disciplinary and interdisciplinary expertise in the social sciences and public health are essential features of these activities. Interests and activities of the unit focus on social actors, the social and cultural contexts of health and illness, and the factors influencing behaviour and social processes of risk, help seeking, and access to health systems. Research is addressing a wide range of fundamental questions about the implications for international health of vulnerability, resilience, and livelihoods; the health-impact of stigma and social support; new approaches to mental health and development for low- and middle-income populations; and interrelationships of society, technology and health.
