Mapping Malaria Risk in Africa (MARA)
The MARA project was set up in 1996 as a multi-institute collaboration centered at the South African Medical Research Council (MRC), to provide an accurate atlas of malaria risk for sub-Saharan Africa, based on assembling malaria prevalence data from published and grey literature. To date over 13 000 data-points have been collected, through literature searches and country visits. Since 2007, Swiss TPH took on the task of updating, maintaining and making this database available on the internet. Currently, MARA is an open-access and user-friendly internet-based platform to extract and display malaria prevalence data.
