Tiffany Bouchery, leader of the group “Helminth Immunology” was appointed assistant professor (without tenure track) at the University of Basel with retroactive effect from 1 February 2023. Tiffany obtained her doctorate at the Museum of Natural History in Paris in 2011 on filariasis. She then completed her postdoctoral training at the Malaghan Institute of Medical Research in New Zealand, the EPFL in Lausanne and the Monash University in Australia researching protective responses against hookworms. She has been a PRIMA fellow at Swiss TPH since August 2021. Her research group focuses on developing targeted pre-clinical approaches for the eradication of the hookworm, a parasitic worm that affects approximately 700 million people worldwide.

Katharina Röltgen, leader of the group “Viral Immunology” has become assistant professor (without tenure track) at the Faculty of Science. The appointment takes retroactive effect from 1 February 2023. Röltgen obtained her doctorate at the Swiss TPH in 2012 and completed her postdoctoral research at Swiss TPH in 2017. In 2018, she joined the Laboratory for Human Immunology at the Stanford University School of Medicine in California where her research was focused on studying immune responses to SARS-CoV-2 infection and influenza and COVID-19 vaccination in the US populations. Röltgen has been a PRIMA fellow at Swiss TPH since January 2023, where she researches B cell and functional antibody responses to SARS-CoV-2 and other human coronaviruses in African compared to European and US populations.

The two assistant professorships have been filled at the request of the Faculty of Science of the University of Basel. At the University of Basel, the PRIMA funding instrument from the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF) are associated with the conferral of an assistant professorship.
