Alexander Schulze is Head of Department at Swiss TPH. In his role, he oversees all entities providing health systems strengthening support and medical/clinical services, including the Centre for Tropical and Travel Medicine and the Diagnostic Centre. 

Alexander holds a PhD in Development Sociology from the University of Bayreuth and a postgraduate diploma in Development Cooperation from ETH Zurich. With over 25 years of experience in global health and international cooperation, he has held leadership roles in the public, corporate, and philanthropic sectors, including at Fondation Botnar, the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation, and the Novartis Foundation. His work spans across a variety of areas in global health, including access to health services, quality of health systems, adolescent and mental health. His geographical focus is Africa, with long-term engagements in Burkina Faso, Mali and Tanzania.

Alexander is currently a board member of the Swiss health NGO SolidarMed. Previously, he served on the Ethics and Governance Committee of The Global Fund, was a member of the Advisory Council to The Lancet Global Health Commission on High-Quality Health Systems and Co-Chair of the Global Network for Health Financing and Social Protection (P4H).
