Anyone wishing to work in the field of international cooperation needs more than just professional expertise; they also benefit from having intercultural competencies and an understanding of global and geopolitical developments, and of how these influence health systems. The postgraduate programme in International Cooperation and Global Health (CAS IZGG) at Swiss TPH provides the required knowledge and skills through an interdisciplinary, practice-oriented approach.
When Sonja Pumplün decided to enrol in the CAS IZGG, she already had many years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry. She wanted to put her experience to use in international cooperation.
“The CAS IZGG programme equipped me with relevant and valuable knowledge that enabled me to start working in international cooperation in the Global South and in humanitarian relief operations as a pharmacist. I particularly enjoyed delving into tropical medicine, parasitology, health impact assessments and intercultural cooperation. This postgraduate programme prepared me both professionally and personally for international assignments and continues to guide me to this day.”

The CAS IZGG brings together a diverse range of professionals from across the healthcare sector, including nurses, doctors, public health experts, and professionals from the pharmaceutical industry, public administration and NGOs. The programme combines a strong scientific foundation with practice-oriented learning. Engaging with experienced lecturers and participants from various professional backgrounds fosters new perspectives and is a key component of the CAS.
The competencies gained are relevant for both international assignments and day-to-day professional practice in Switzerland. Cultural diversity has long been an integral part of everyday life in the Swiss healthcare system, both among patients and within intercultural teams.
The next course – Module B (Global Health) – starts on 5 October 2026. The course is held in German at Swiss TPH in Allschwil (in person only).
