With the start of the autumn semester, Swiss TPH welcomes a new cohort of 59 master’s and PhD students. Representing a wide range of nationalities and academic backgrounds, they join a diverse community committed to improving health worldwide.

New master’s students begin their studies
This autumn, 40 students started their master’s studies at Swiss TPH, joining the MSc Infection Biology and MSc Epidemiology programmes. The MSc Infection Biology focuses on host-pathogen interactions, with particular attention to poverty-related infectious diseases. It lays the groundwork for the development of new treatments, vaccines and diagnostic tools to better prevent and manage infectious diseases. The MSc Epidemiology provides students with a solid foundation in epidemiological principles and biostatistics and includes research work, often conducted as part of a practical project at Swiss TPH.
“Each new cohort of MSc students brings fresh perspectives, curiosity and new ideas,” said Till Voss, coordinator of the MSc Infection Biology programme. “We look forward to exploring the complexities of infectious diseases together and giving students the opportunity to actively engage in research throughout their studies.”
New PhD students join Swiss TPH
Swiss TPH also welcomes 19 new PhD students representing 11 nationalities. They will contribute to research across a broad range of disciplines, including parasitology, infection biology, epidemiology, public health and medical anthropology.
A diverse and international learning environment
In total, 187 PhD students are currently enrolled at Swiss TPH, representing 56 nationalities. Around one fifth are from Switzerland, while around 60% come from low- and middle-income countries, including Benin and Laos. This international mix brings together a wide range of perspectives and experiences, fostering exchange and mutual learning – important foundations for addressing health challenges that cross borders and disciplines.
