Travellers' Health

The Travellers’ Health course prepares health professionals and travel industry staff to provide relevant health information to travellers and to assess travel-related problems during and after travel, with a particular focus on tropical diseases. At the end of the course, participants will be able to provide up-to-date travel medicine information. This includes preventive advice before travel, including immunisation and other aspects during travel, appropriate risk assessment and behaviour during travel, and management of travel-related illness based on individual and epidemiological characteristics. 

This course is supported by the World Health Organization (WHO), the European Network for Tropical Medicine and Travel Health (TropNet) and the Swiss Society of Tropical and Travel Medicine (SSTMP). The course is delivered in a hybrid format, with both onsite and online participation.
 

The course is delivered in a hybrid format and divided into three parts:

  1. Pre-travel advice: Aims of travel medicine, risk analysis, vaccination, prophylaxis of vector-borne diseases, special risk groups, efforts to harmonise and standardise travel advice, information tools, communication of information.
  2. Health problems abroad: Risk factors and common travel health problems and their management.
  3. The returning traveller: Differential diagnosis of travel-related illness (fever, diarrhoea, skin disorders, eosinophilia), management of imported diseases.

The course is open to medical doctors, senior nursing staff, pharmacists and other health professionals, as well as to travel industry personnel with a strong interest in travel medicine.

The total course fee is CHF 1,200. For students registered as tropEd Master students at a tropEd home institution, the course fee is CHF 1,000. The fee must be paid 4 weeks before the start of the course. This amount includes the registration fee of CHF 100, which is due at the time of acceptance. If a participant does not attend the course, the registration fee cannot be reimbursed. Cancellations received less than 4 weeks prior to the start of the course are subject to a cancellation fee of CHF 350.
 

In case of an insufficient number of participants the course can be cancelled up to 4 weeks prior to the course start. Swiss TPH is not responsible for any costs related to flight bookings etc.
