Globale Gesundheit

In this short course, the main areas of focus are brought together under the umbrella term Global Health. In the first block, Geographical Medicine, a wide range of diseases in different areas and different health and social system contexts are introduced in detail. The focus is on tropical regions and socioeconomically disadvantaged contexts. The first sub-module also includes visual teaching with laboratory demonstrations, microscopy and case studies. The health of nomadic and migrant populations is also covered.

The Health Interventions module focuses on interventions to improve the health of individuals and populations in various endemic areas of the tropics, subtropics and other geographical zones. The understanding of health systems in different socio-political contexts, the health of vulnerable groups such as mothers and children in resource-limited countries, and the surveillance and control of vector-borne diseases are at the core of the course. Particular emphasis is placed on the interdisciplinary view of being and staying healthy, and on health impact assessment as an interdisciplinary approach to the planning of development and cooperation programmes.
