Technical Assistance for SRS Planning Grant Countries

Accurate and reliable mortality data is essential for effective public health planning, policymaking, and resource allocation. Despite its importance, many countries face challenges in establishing robust systems to collect and analyze this data. Sample Registration Systems (SRS) offer a structured, scalable, and sustainable approach for generating essential mortality statistics. Addressing these challenges calls for approaches rooted in local leadership, knowledge, and international collaboration.

This project provides comprehensive technical assistance to six countries that have received planning grants for SRS development. By working with these countries through the critical stages of assessment, design, and integration, we aim to support national teams in creating contextually appropriate and sustainable systems. Leveraging a collaborative framework, the initiative ensures that SRS planning aligns with local priorities, strengthens existing mortality surveillance systems, and fosters long-term capacity strengthening (individually, institutionally and systems).

Through a systems approach and a responsive technical assistance mechanism, we will work with countries in navigating complex challenges and building the foundation for accurate mortality surveillance. A key aspect of our approach is its emphasis on a country-driven process, ensuring that the assessment is context-specific and aligned with local priorities and needs. Our collaborative approach builds trust, ensures buy-in, and fosters a sense of shared responsibility in driving the integration process forward.

The project aims to achieve five overarching strategic objectives: (1) National Ownership and Leadership, (2) Strengthen Mortality Data Ecosystems, (3) Strengthen Regional and Global Expertise, (4) Promote Equity and Contextual Relevance, and (5) Facilitate Knowledge Sharing and Collaboration.
