Daniel Gacutan Salunga is a PhD Student in Public Health and Epidemiology at the Swiss Centre for International Health, Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute and Faculty of Medicine, University of Basel. He is a Swiss Government Excellence Scholar from the Philippines. Daniel is a licensed Nutritionist-Dietitian with specialization in public health nutrition and food and nutrition research. He holds a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Holistic Nutrition with Culinary Arts from Manila Tytana Colleges as a Metrobank Scholar, and a Master’s of Science degree in Public Health major in Nutrition at the University of the Philippines Manila as Department of Science and Technology Scholar. He has a decade of experience on nutrition program management, evaluation, research, information, education and communication as Nutrition Officer in the National Nutrition Council of the Department of Health and as Senior Research Coordinator of Helen Keller International. He was involved in various implementation research with UN agencies and other international organizations. Daniel has taught nutrition courses for both undergraduate and graduate students at the University of Santo Tomas and University of the Philippines Manila. His research interest is on nutrition and sustainable food system policies with a focus in low-and-middle income countries. He is engaged in an ongoing research project in Bangladesh, Kenya, Rwanda and the Philippines.
