Every year, 100 million people are pushed into poverty because they have to pay out of pocket for healthcare. To make sure that people can access health services without financial hardship, many countries have committed to ensuring universal health coverage and social protection. Swiss TPH provides tailor-made support to these countries.

Swiss TPH designs and implements health insurance solutions. This covers system aspects related to the financing of health systems, quality of care, as well as questions of health information systems and digitalization. Our services include needs assessments, designing health insurance schemes, developing the software, providing implementation support and capacity building. This work makes an important contribution to ensuring that people get access to essential health services and to protecting them from the associated financial costs.

Over the years, Swiss TPH has worked in 15 different countries in Africa and Asia. In Tanzania for instance, we introduced a reformed community health fund to include the rural and informal sector populations in social health protection schemes. Over 3 million people benefit from health insurance, giving them access to treatment and medicines at over 6000 health facilities in Tanzania.

In our new video, we highlight our expertise and services in health financing and insurance informatics that ultimately contribute to universal health coverage.
