The Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute (Swiss TPH) is a world-leading institute in global health with a particular focus on low- and middle-income countries. Corporate Social Responsibility
Climate change affects us all and so we want to make our contribution to the environment. Every year, we take part in the Bike-To-Work event and provide enough bike places. We also promote the use of public transport by offering all employees a discount on a U-Abonnement (JobTicket TNW).
No one-way plastic is offered in the new building. In the canteen, reusable plastic is provided for the take-away menus and the break rooms will be equipped with dishes and dishwashers.
In 1989, our employees founded the "Support Group at Swiss TPH", an association of staff and friends of Swiss TPH, with the aim to assist people and associations in low-resource countries. Anyone can become a member. For further information, click here.
Development, Training & Mentoring
As an institute that provides training and education, it is of great importance to us that our employees are able to continue their education at internal or external courses and seminars. In an individual development plan for everyone, training needs are logged. Besides an internal mentoring programs to all employees and PhD students and an e-learning platform, our association with the University of Basel gives us the opportunity to benefit from free courses at the university. Our employees can also improve their language skills thanks to discounted courses offered by the university's Language Center. Furthermore, Swiss TPH benefits from discounted courses with other training providers.

Swiss TPH is aware of the challenge of managing a family and career and therefore promotes a healthy work-life balance through flexible working models and specific management measures.
Our employees benefit from sixteen weeks of maternity leave with full pay, two weeks of which Swiss TPH compensates on a voluntary basis. Paternity leave is six weeks with full pay, four of which are covered by Swiss TPH.
Swiss TPH employees are entitled to an adoption leave of 4 weeks under certain conditions.
Furthermore, a nursing room is provided and breastfeeding breaks are granted during working hours.
In addition to the statutory child or education allowances, Swiss TPH pays a generous maintenance allowances according to the number of eligible children.
We are not only concerned about the health of the world, but also that of our employees. To promote this, we offer free medical entry and exit examinations.
Furthermore, our employees receive free access to the extensive UniSport offers of the University of Basel.
In addition, our new building "Belo Horizonte" is equipped with new adjustable desks to protect the back health of staff and students, as well as our own canteen providing healthy culinary experience including vegetarian, vegan, lactose-free and gluten-free options.
Since we travel across the world, it is essential that our employees receive global protection. Therefore, all employees at Swiss TPH benefit from private accident insurance with global coverage.
In the event of illness, our employees can rely on 720 days of continued salary payment, which is covered by daily sickness benefit insurance.
Employees at Swiss TPH receive at least 25 days of vacation. In addition, our employees are free to convert their 13th month's salary into paid holidays. Depending on when the public holidays fall each year, additional bridging days are granted before or after the public holidays (approx. 5 days per year).
In order to promote a healthy work-life balance, we offer our employees a modern working model that allows them to flexibly arrange their working hours and place of work. There is the possibility of job sharing, top sharing and various part-time models. We also offer the possibility to pursue a sabbatical.
