SomPsyNet - Evaluation Project "Prevention of consequences of psychosocial stress among somatic patients in the hospital setting of Basel-Stadt "

Health promotion Switzerland (“Gesundheitsförderung Schweiz”) mandated Swiss TPH with a four years process, outcome and impact evaluation of the project "Prevention of consequences of psychosocial stress among somatic patients in the hospital setting of Basel-StadtProject Detail" (SomPsyNet). The ultimate goal of the project is to improve the care and health of patients in the hospital settings in Basel and to reduce treatment costs in the long run through more targeted and better coordinated care. The SomPsyNet project is supported by the Canton of Basel-Stadt, the University Hospital Basel (= project sponsor) and Health Promotion Switzerland. Complementing the project sponsor's planned activities, the Swiss TPH monitors and assesses – through a formative process evaluation - enabling and disabling factors of identifying and treating somatic patients with psychosocial stress. The evaluation by the Swiss TPH analyzes in cooperation with the University of Basel costs and benefits of coordinated care models. To assess the impact on health and quality of life, both clinical data (in-patient treatment and follow-up of hospital stays) and insurance data (use of other health services) will be analyzed. One of the results will consists in indicating to other settings in Switzerland the relevance of coordinated care models for somatic patients with pyschosocial problems.
