Prof. Dr. med. Nicole Ritz
Nicole Ritz is Head of Research at Swiss TPH and a titular professor at the University of Basel. Her research focuses on biomarkers for diagnosing infectious diseases and tuberculosis in children and adolescents. She completed her medical studies at the University of Bern, followed by paediatric training and certification in Switzerland. She then pursued a clinical research fellowship in Cape Town and at the Royal Children’s Hospital in Melbourne. During this time, she led a large tuberculosis vaccine trial and completed her PhD on tuberculosis prevention. Upon returning to Switzerland, she completed her training as an infectious diseases specialist and obtained a second board certification. She worked as a consultant in paediatrics and infectious diseases at the University Children’s Hospital Basel (UKBB), where she established a clinic for migrant health — a key focus of her work. Since 2021, she has been Head of Paediatrics at Lucerne Cantonal Hospital's Children’s Hospital, where she founded the Center for Child Health Analytics in 2023. She is also a board member of several national and international professional associations, including the European Society for Paediatric Infectious Diseases (ESPID).
