Barbara Matthys, PhD, is an epidemiologist and public health specialist at the Swiss Centre for International Health of the Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute. She has solid experience in programmatic performance and monitoring and evaluation (M&E) of malaria control programs including national reporting systems and data quality, and in operational research (OR). She provides technical, managerial and administrative support to a DFID funded malaria control project in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). Barbara Matthys has carried out Data Quality Audits and impact assessments of malaria grants for the Global Fund to Fight Aids, Tuberculosis and Malaria in several African countries. She has technically assisted National Malaria Programs in Central Asia in strategic reviews of malaria elimination activities. Barbara Matthys has conceived, implemented, coordinated, and technically and scientifically backstopped epidemiological and population-based studies and surveys mainly using quantitative methods in the areas of malaria, human intestinal parasites, iodine and nutritional status, diabetes, quality of health care and health literacy in school-, community-, and health facility settings, and outlined recommendations to national partners.
