Swiss TPH Welcomes High Number of New Students
17.09.2025
With the start of the autumn semester, Swiss TPH warmly welcomes over 90 new master’s and PhD students from across the globe. The number of master’s students increased over the last years, reflecting the strong appeal of the MSc Infection Biology and MSc Epidemiology programmes offered by Swiss TPH.

High number of master’s students
A total of 66 students started their MSc this semester at Swiss TPH – the highest number to date and an increase from the 40 new students in autumn 2024 and the 31 in autumn 2023.
In the MSc Infection Biology, 36 new students will dive into the complex field of host-pathogen interactions, with particular emphasis on poverty-related infectious diseases caused by parasites and bacteria. Understanding these and other aspects of infection biology provides the basis for developing novel drugs, vaccines and diagnostic tools to better manage and prevent infectious diseases.
30 students started their MSc Epidemiology, which focuses on epidemiological principles and biostatistics and includes research work, often conducted as part of a practical project at Swiss TPH. Their studies will equip them with the skills to investigate population health, identify disease patterns and risk factors, design interventions, and evaluate their impact.
“We are excited to welcome such a large number of new students,” said Julia Bohlius, Head of the Education and Training Department at Swiss TPH. “It is a pleasure to see many familiar faces who attended one of our courses during their bachelor’s studies. Their education at Swiss TPH will empower them to address the most pressing global health issues and grow into health leaders.”
New PhD students join Swiss TPH
Swiss TPH also welcomes 25 new PhD students from 14 countries, who will join ongoing research across disciplines such as parasitology, infection biology, epidemiology, public health, and medical anthropology. In total, around 200 PhD students are currently enrolled at Swiss TPH.
A diverse and global community
Our students reflect a wide range of cultural and academic backgrounds. The new students come from over 30 countries. Around a third of them are Swiss, with many coming from the Basel region. The rest join us from abroad, including a significant number from low- and middle-income countries such as Rwanda and Peru.
