Identifying Barriers to Exclusive Breastfeeding in Urban Low Income Settings

Children in Lao PDR as well as in many other middle-income countries continue to receive sub-optimal nutrition because of low breastfeeding rates, undermining their developmental potential. While major public health campaigns have tried to increase breastfeeding rates, they have been largely unsuccessful. In this project, we conduct a qualitative study designed to identify current barriers and potential mechanisms to promote breastfeeding in Vientiane.
