PREVENT-PE: Preeclampsia detection – verifying a novel rapid test
Project Abstract
PREVENT-PE evaluates an innovative, affordable point-of-care rapid diagnostic test, préXclude, for early and late onset preeclampsia in LMIC settings. The préXclude test measures sFlt-1/PlGF ratios from a 20μL finger-prick blood sample, delivering results in 30 minutes with targeted costs of $2 per test. The study assesses both technical performance against gold standard laboratory tests and operational feasibility in real-world conditions across pregnant women. PréXclude could revolutionize prenatal care in resource-limited settings by enabling early detection and timely intervention, potentially reducing maternal and fetal mortality while decreasing healthcare costs in LMICs where preeclampsia disproportionately impacts women.
