Review of the National Leprosy Programme in Bangladesh

The Government of Bangladesh has developed the National Strategic Plan (NSP) for Leprosy 2023–2030, aligned with the WHO Global Leprosy Strategy and NTD Roadmap, aiming to achieve: Zero Infection, Zero Disability, Zero Stigma and Discrimination by 2030. Given the upcoming milestones (2025–2026), an independent Joint Monitoring Mission (JMM) assesses progress, identifies gaps, and recommends strategic actions.

Purpose of the epidemiological review: To provide independent, high-quality epidemiological analysis and assessment of the leprosy situation in Bangladesh as part of the Joint Monitoring Mission (JMM), generating evidence to guide strategic decisions toward achieving “Zero Leprosy” by 2030. The assignment is part of the JMM process.

General objective: To conduct a comprehensive epidemiological assessment of leprosy situation (at least last 10 years) in Bangladesh to inform the Joint Monitoring Mission (JMM).
