“I am very happy and most satisfied that our efforts in teaching and research have been recognised by our partners in Lao PDR,” said Peter Odermatt, Leader of the Group Helminths and Health at Swiss TPH. Odermatt was working from 1999 to 2005 at the Institut de la Francophonie pour la Médecine tropicale in Vientiane, a postgraduate training centre in Lao PDR for the region of Southeast Asia, and contributed to its development and later integration into the Lao PDR public health structure.

Strong links with Lao PDR

Swiss TPH has been active in Lao PDR in controlling different parasitic worm infections for more than two decades and continues to collaborate closely with partners such as the Lao Tropical and Public Health Institute. In collaboration with the R. Geigy Foundation for example, Swiss TPH researchers examined the morbidity and treatments pertaining to the most common helminth infections.
